    Position overview

      Mikros Animation Montreal is looking for Lead Animators for its new animated feature ‘SpongeBob SquarePants movie’ (Paramount). The main responsibility of the position will be to manage and mentor a team of animators, and also the animation of characters and props. As the Animation department will start in February

    Responsabilities

      Each Lead will be responsible for the following :  
    • Work directly with the animation supervisor to achieve the director’s vision
    • Lead a team of 8 animators trickling in starting February 2019
    • Research and development of characters
    • Assign shots, working closely with the production coordinator
    • To ensure that any retakes and notes requested by the client are understood and distributed.
    • To creatively direct, train and support your team of artists, developing them, and be a source of inspiration and motivation, building and maintaining the spirit of the department.
    • To meet the animation quotas given by production and communicate with the production team
    • Experience with Shotgun

    • Strong knowledge of 3D animation, and experience of the pipeline for making animated features.
    • Understanding of 2D principles/2D animation experience a plus

    • Thorough knowledge of Maya is essential.

  • PRODUCTION ASSISTANT (M / F) ** urgent **

    Project : SpongeBob SquarePants Movie

    Position overview

    Mikros Animation Montreal is looking for Production assistants for its new animated feature ‘SpongeBob SquarePants movie’ (Paramount). The main responsibility will be to work day by day, on the floor with the artist, organize the meetings, and follow the advancement of the work, daily reporting to the production coordinator the status of the department and if there is any issue or lack of inventory.  

    Responsibilities

      Tracking  
    • Assist the Production coordinator to ensure all Shotgun statuses are up to date at all times, either during reviews, either immediately out of the review.
    • Hold rounds with the team
    • Maintain the crew planning file (with sickness/holidays/country/start and end date)
    • Update and maintain contact list for the department.
    • Ensure the team have all that they need to hit upcoming milestones/Deliveries and help to chase upstream departments for dependencies.
      Review  
    • Set up review and Dailies sessions and take notes when required by the coordinator.
    • Prepare the room / the playlists and gather the team to ensure that everybody is there on time
      Reporting  
    • Daily reporting back any delays/concerns to the production coordinator and team supervisor/leads
     

    Competencies

    • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel software
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in French and English
      Additionnal skills  
    • Good organizational and project monitoring skills
    • Ability to demonstrate ability to grasp priorities, meet deadlines and adapt to changes during production
    • Demonstrate autonomy and assiduity
    • Be comfortable with the PC environment
    • Knowing an asset manager like SHOTGUN

  • CFX SUPERVISOR (M / F) ** urgent **

    Position overview

      Who’s ready? Mikros Animation Montréal is now in production on the new SpongeBob SquarePants movie.    We are looking for a CFX Supervisor to join our team of incredible talents!    The CFX Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of artists and ensuring their work respects the highest quality standards and production’s schedule.   A strong technical background is also essential. Under the supervision of the CG and Technical Animation Supervisors, the CFX Supervisor is responsible for implementing the best technical approaches to create stunning visual effects.   

    Responsabilities

     
    • Supervise the CFX team (3 artists) and ensure the quality of the work out of the department. 
    • Work with production coordinators to schedule the team. 
    • Implement and deliver technical solutions, in collaboration with the Technical Animation Supervisor and the Hair Lead. 
    • Train and guide the CFX team, promoting collaboration and team spirit within the department. 
    • Be accountable for the retakes and ensure their follow-up.  
    • Be in direct contact with R&D. 
    • Respect the quotas set by production. 
     

    Competencies

     
    • Proven experience in leading a team of CFX artists. 
    • Strong knowledge of Maya is essential. 
    • Thorough understanding of 3D and animation movies production pipeline. 
    • Good knowledge of nCloth et nHair. 
    • Strong problem-solving skills. 
    • Being proactive and able to adapt is extremely important. 
    • Good communication skills (French and English). 
    • Bilingual (French and English). 
    • Knowledge of Python and Houdini, a plus.

    Mikros Animation is looking for a Nuke Developer to joins the Paris' Render Dev Team. Under the responsability of his lead, the Nuke Developer creates and maintains a diverse set of tools for animation production, with a focus on improving efficiency for artists and production management. He/she also work directly with TDs, artists and production management to assess needs, train, and support. 

    Job Description

    Under the responsibility of the lead of the team, your main missions will be :
    • Design and Communicate pipeline architecture
    • Develop Compositing and Matte-Painting pipeline.
    • Determine, design, document and maintain re-usable code modules.
    • Work on road map for future pipeline
    • Guide and help team members and TD using your technical expertise.
    • Do code reviews and give productive feedback to team members and TD.
    • Submit your own code for code reviews.
    • Communicate technical issues to IT.

    Job Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications :
    • 2-3+ years experience as Nuke Developer in the Anim/VFX industry
    • 2-3+ years experience with Python
    • Extensive knowledge of Nuke
    • Strong familiarity with Nuke's Python API and writing Gizmos
    • Knowledge of the overall VFX or Animation pipeline
    • Experience with Linux
    • Familiarity with TCL
    • Strong familiarity with Git and collaborative workflows (code review, standards, etc.)
        Desired qualifications:
    • UI development using PySide / PyQt
    • Experience with Regular Expressions
    • Experience with BlinkScript
    • Reasonably comfortable with Shotgun and Shotgun Toolkit (Tank)
    • Experience with C++
    • Knowledge of any/all of Mari/Maya/Houdini/Katana/Arnold is a plus

    Position overview

      Who’s ready? Mikros Animation Montréal is now in production on the new SpongeBob SquarePants movie.  We are looking for a Rigging artist to join our team of incredible talents!  The Rigging Artist is responsible for designing and maintaining a smooth and efficient rig for CG assets. He or she must have a strong understanding of CG pipelines and production methods and a strong management style with excellent organizational and artistic skills   

    Responsabilities

       
    • Work with the Rigging Lead/Supervisor to establish a rig that fully supports an animation style that reflects the tone of the film, and maintain the style throughout the film;  
    • Work to create top quality body and facial rigs that meet the desired quality and style; 
    • Work closely with the Animation Team to ensure that the productions’ needs are understood and met, and that animators have fast, efficient, intuitive puppets; 
    • Create and adjust rigging standards; 
    • Provide creative ideas and solutions for the film on both a visual and technical level; 
    • Be a key contributor to create an engaging animated film of top quality, while managing and reducing the complexities of production; 
    • Be able to flag and solve potential  problems to stay on schedule;   
    • Good knowledge in anatomy. 
       

    Competencies

     
    • 5+ years of experience working in the animation industry as a Rigging artist; 
    • Comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of CG, pipeline and associated software/plugins; 
    • Experience in a variety of Maya rigging techniques, and the ability to optimize performance of rigs; 
    • Advanced hero character rigging experience with a Maya based pipeline; 
    • Must be able to take direction; 
    • Expert in Maya, with strong skills in MEL and Python scripting;  
    • Good communication skills are and excellent team player; 
    • A creative problem-solver; 
    • Must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident in Canada and be available to work in Montreal, Quebec.

      Who’s readyMikros Animation Montréal is now in production on the new SpongeBob SquarePants movie We’re looking for animators to help up bring Bikini Bottom to life!     Mikros Animation is looking for 3D Character Animators with experience and knowledge of the principles of character animation along with 2D animation sensibilities to join our growing team to create fun and stylized work.  In our fast-paced studio, we are committed to creating high quality animation and great performances. Candidates will thrive as part of our team under the direction of the Animation Supervisor and Leads aiming together to achieve the film Director’s vision. As 2D animation principals will take a front seat in our current production, an adaptability to translate 2D concepts to a 3D world is important.   Entries in the department will be made between February and spring 2019.

    Responsabilities

      Your primary responsibility will be the animation and performances of all assigned characters and props. We are looking for artists with a strong sense of design, an aptitude for facial animation and lip sync while maintaining strong fundamentals in weight, cartoony animation concepts as well as body mechanics.   
    • Work with the storyboard / animatic / layout and create feature level, key-framed animation;
    • Working in continuity with shot before and after;
    • Work with animation quotas given by the production;
    • Work closely with Animation Leads and Director to bring the film to life;  
    • Prepare elements for presentation in dailies and rounds for approval;  
    • Actively participate in creating and maintaining the animation library.  
     

    Competencies

     
    • College diploma or equivalent in 3D computer graphics/3D animation;
    • More than 3 years (Mid) or more than 5 years (seniors) of proven work experience in 3D animation using MAYA in a film production/animated TV series;
    • A strong background in feature CG character animation,2D animation and drawing / design skills,a plus;  
    • Strong understanding of the principles of 2D cartoony animation as well posing, timing, weight and facial expressions; 
    • Ability to understand and effectively interpret a storyboard and the Director’s feedback;  
    • Ability to work within an established pipeline and learn to use custom tools;
    • Knowledge of RV and Shotgun useful;
    • An eye for whacky, cartoony animation, being ok with bending and breaking animation rules;
    • A Teamplayer and has excellent communication skills;
