    Project : Sherlock Gnomes

    Position overview

    Mikros Animation’s Paris & London studios are hiring for Senior Animators, for our feature animation project: Paramount’s Gnomeo and Juliet: Sherlock Gnomes.  The main responsibility of the position will be the animation of characters and props.

    Job description

    • Development and exploration of the characters, alongside Animation Director and Leads
    • To research acting references through recording your own and/or others’ acting, you will have rooms available for this purpose
    • To prepare shots for review in Shotgun, for Paris or London, prior to deadline
    • To focus on your shots and scenes, preparing them in readiness for dailies and reviews
    • To make any retakes or amendments as requested
    • To meet the animation quotas given by production

    Competencies required

    • We are looking for animators able to offer a certain finesse to the acting game, who can draw out the personality of the characters through acting, showing their internal wants and desires
    • Must have experience in 3D character animation, with a high-level of performance animation
    • Feature animation experience is a plus
    • Have a strong sense of posing and timing, and an excellent knowledge of animation, especially facial acting
    • Strong sensibility for physical believability
    • Thorough knowledge of Maya is essential
    • Excellent time management and organisation skills
    • Good communication and interpersonal skill
    • Passion to make a high quality film

    Project : Sherlock Gnomes

    Position overview

    Mikros Animation’s London studio is hiring for Final Set Dressers  for our new feature animation project: Paramount’s Gnomeo and Juliet: Sherlock Gnomes. We are looking for artists of all levels including those with proven leadership experience and those at the early stages of their career.

    Job description

    • Deliver the final polished shot-wise set-dressing with an eye for composition and storytelling.
    • Establish and maintain continuity between sequences and shots - both for our mono and stereo release.
    • Adjust Model and Surfacing of set-dressing elements and create simple props from scratch as required.
    • Camera sweetening tasks to enhance final output.
    • Work closely with the lighting/compositing and stereo departments to guarantee the best results.

    Competencies required

    • Ideal candidates will be able to showcase high quality generalist work with a passion for environments and/or lighting.  
    • Must be self-motivated and be able to work under tight deadlines.
    • Must be able to work as part of a team and independently.  
    • Close attention to detail is a must.
    • Knowledge of animation / VFX pipelines and working with other departments.
    • Fluent knowledge of Maya.
    • Knowledge of Katana, Houdini, Nuke and Arnold desirable.

  • RIGGING TD ** urgent **

    Position overview

    Mikros Image is looking for a Maya Rigger for Gnomeo & Juliet: Sherlock Gnomes. The Rigger will be responsible for building robust and efficient rigs, and working with the Rigging team based in Paris to implement and support these rigs.

    Job description

    • Creating and developing fast elegant character rigs using Maya and proprietary tools
    • Working with modeling and animation departments to facilitate articulate, realistic and appealing characters
    • Work with the CG team implementing the rigs and rigging the assets, integrating of characters and rigs into the production pipeline
    • Design and implement scripted solutions for maximum speed and efficiency of rigging
    • Work with leads and supervisors in the testing of rigged assets
    • During production, support all the rigged assets
    • Creating User Interfaces and tools to assist animators

    Competencies required

    • Proficiency in Maya
    • Must have experience as a rigger on some high-budget feature film productions
    • Thorough understanding of techniques and technologies relating to character rigging and animation; comprehension of core principles relating to rigging
    • Fluent in French
    • A strong sense of self-motivation and ability to work with little supervision required
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, accessibility and willingness to collaborate is a must
    • Linux scripting experience, especially in Bash/Python, and MEL
    • Strong technical aptitude, excellent problem solving and communication skills required

  • TECHNICAL ANIMATION SUPERVISOR ** urgent **

    Project : Sherlock Gnomes

    Position overview

    We are currently hiring for a Technical Animation Supervisor to join our London studio on Paramount’s Gnomeo & Juliet: Sherlock Gnomes. The position of Technical Animation Supervisor leans towards a more technical and managerial role, with the main creative direction coming from the Animation Director and Lead Animators. The Technical Animation Supervisor will be the main liaison between all departments that feed into the Animation team, supporting the needs of the animation team, and ensuring their needs are met by production.

    Job description

    • Be the main contact of the Animation Director (client side) and CG Supervisors, and Animation team based in London
    • Be the point of contact between all of the departments that will feed into the Animation team: including Rigging, Modeling, Surfacing, TD, and Layout, and those involved in the later stages of the production process
    • To troubleshoot any technical difficulties faced by the team, working with the TD department
    • Maintain and manage the current set-up of the animation tools/picker/GUIs and provide advice on animation fixing
    • Rig expediting & Animation testing
    • Management of the pose library
    • To report back to the Production and other Supervisors any needs of the Animation team, and ensure they have everything they need for the project
    • The animation team will be split between Paris and London, so you will collaborate with the counterpart French Animation Supervisor & teams to balance the load of the two sides

    Competencies required

    • An effective communicator, who is comfortable meeting and collaborating with other members of the production on a regular basis
    • Experience as a Character Animator on a heavily animated movie (VFX or full-CG)
    • Proven understanding of Rigging
    • Experience in a supervisory or leadership position on a feature production
    • Familiarity with the pipeline of animated features
    • Strong technical aptitude
    • Proactive in finding solutions, and with a can-do attitude
    • Fluency with Maya
    • Bonus: knowledge of our other software: Katana, Arnold, and Houdini

  • PRODUCTION COORDINATOR

    Position overview

    Reporting directly to the Line Producer and in direct contact with the team supervisor, the coordinator is a key resource person for the production as he/she acts as a link between all the artists and the production.

    Job description

    • Maintain and update the department’s schedule in-line with global schedule/milestones
    • Follow-up and update shot statuses and artist targets, to share shot status when required
    • Working with the Line producer and Supervisors to evaluate artists’ targets, quotas and objectives
    • Organize, attend, and manage dailies and review meetings, take notes of all relevant information and distribute them to department’s crew and artists
    • Manage flow of information and transfer of information/work between departments
    • Ensures that the artists have all the necessary information and warn production management in case of work overload
    • Keep artists and supervisors up to date with information – client notes, shot changes, modifications – and evaluate impact on current work
    • Anticipate potential problems and production delays
    • Prepare detailed tracking and status reports for the Production and client: client notes, shot and schedule changes, or any important modifications

    Competencies required

    • Senior level production coordinator experience, ideally in feature animation
    • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
    • High attention to detail, with very strong organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage conflicts
    • Proven scheduling experience
    • Being able to work well in a fast-paced, high-energy environment
    • Soft skills: Team-player, energetic, proactive, outgoing and involved
    • Advance knowledge of Shogun software and Excel preferred

    Job description

    • Translation of storyboards and animatics into 3D previs/Layout
    • Develop the narrative through the creation of staging, blocking and camera techniques in 3D
    • Interpret the vision of the Director and Layout Supervisor
    • Discuss and critique both your own and others sequences for it’s contribution to the story
    • Create basic character poses to prepare the scenes for animation
    • Prepare shots for review in Shotgun

    Competencies required

    • Professional experience with layout on a fully animated production
    • Professional experience working in a full CG environment
    • Strong knowledge of cinematic language, camera techniques, lighting and animation
    • Thorough knowledge of Maya is essential

  • LIGHTING ARTISTS

    Position overview

    Mikros Animation are currently working on Paramount’s full CG feature film Sherlock Gnomes. We are now hiring for Lead Lighters. You will be working with the Lighting-Comp Supervisor to define and utilise artistic and technical skills to maintain continuity throughout. You will be working closely with a team of lighters and compositors at all levels.

    Competencies required

    • Extensive lighting experience working on a live-action VFX / Animated Feature film
    • Good knowledge of Arnold
    • Knowledge of Katana
    • Deep understanding of the artistic concepts of colour and composition
    • An ability to meet productivity and quota targets

  • DIGITAL MATTE PAINTERS

    Position overview

    Mikros Image is looking for a Digital Matte Painters at Senior, Mid and Junior levels, to extend and manipulate the sets and environments of London on Paramount’s Gnomeo & Juliet: Sherlock Gnomes.

    Job description

    • To digitally and stylistically extend the environments, in-line with the vision of the Director and Art Director
    • Create complex digital backgrounds, landscapes, and environments in a 3D world using a range of digital tools involving painting and rendering programs
    • Working with the DMP Supervisor, extrapolate art direction: i.e. design, architectural style, lighting and graphics, which adhere to the Director's overall vision
    • Setup and execute 3D paintings in-line with the technical aspects of the work created
    • Develop the atmosphere on a range of vistas
    • Texture fixing: define and stretch textures where required
    • Collaborate with the Art Department, Layout, Modeling, Look Development, Final Set Dressing, Lighting and Compositing, and Stereo teams

    Competencies required

    • Proven ability to complete paintings within a fast paced, dynamic, deadline driven environment, according to expectations
    • Excellent attention to detail
    • A comprehensive knowledge of the film and television industry, digital production processes and digital matte painting production
    • Experience working on animated features preferred
    • Proven strong technical and visual skills
    • Experience as a 3D Generalist preferred, working knowledge of the principles of 3D texture projections in Maya
    • Strong understanding of Maya, Photoshop, Arnold, required
    • Knowledge of Mari, UV Layout, Katana, Nuke, preferred
